"What is it, Robert?" Amber demanded, her voice shrill with sudden panic. She ripped the papers out of his trembling hands and read the header out loud.

“Notice of Immediate Asset Seizure and Federal Indictment.”

The entire dining room gasped.

Jason finally set his bourbon glass down on the white tablecloth. The 38-year-old son stood up, buttoning his dark suit jacket. He looked at his father with absolute, freezing disgust.

"You thought you were a genius, Dad," Jason said, his voice cutting through the stunned silence. "You thought you could embezzle forty million dollars from the pension fund, hide it in the Caymans, and then trick Mom into taking the fall for your corporate fraud."

Robert stared at his son, his jaw hanging open in pure horror. "Jason... how..."

"I'm the Chief Financial Officer, you arrogant fool," Jason spat. "I noticed the missing funds six months ago. I traced the wire transfers directly to Amber’s shell companies. And the moment I found out you were stealing from our employees to fund your mistress, I went straight to Mom."

Julia took another calm, composed bite of her prime rib.
