Chapter 4 - The Emerald Mistress

Robert’s words sent a shockwave of confused whispers through the private dining room. The Bennett Corporation was a massive logistics empire. Why would Robert, a man obsessed with power, willingly hand over his entire life's work to the wife he was discarding, just to run away with offshore cash?

Amber finally stood up from her table. She couldn't stand the fact that Julia was still the center of attention. She walked over, her emerald dress clinging to her figure, and wrapped a possessive arm around Robert.

"Robert has worked hard his entire life," Amber announced, her voice dripping with venomous condescension as she looked down at Julia. "He deserves to spend his retirement traveling the world with a woman who can actually keep up with him. Running a dying company is just too much stress for him at his age. It's time for you to take the burden, Julia."

The insult was incredibly cruel, designed to strike at Julia’s age and worth.

Julia took a small, elegant bite of her prime rib. She chewed slowly, swallowed, and didn't even bother to look up at the blonde mistress.

"The steak here is truly phenomenal," Julia remarked quietly to the empty air in front of her. "Don't you agree, Jason?"

Jason took a sip of his bourbon. "The best in Charlotte, Mom."
