Chapter 2 - The Stolen Vacation

To understand the sheer, unhinged audacity of Vanessa’s behavior, one had to look at exactly how this luxury vacation was booked.

Margaret was a widow. She had spent the last two decades quietly managing her late husband’s vast corporate portfolio, living entirely out of the public eye. She didn't flaunt her immense wealth. She didn't buy sports cars or wear flashy diamond necklaces. She preferred a quiet, understated life.

For her son Daniel’s thirty-fifth birthday, Margaret had arranged an intimate, highly exclusive family getaway at this five-star oceanfront resort. She had specifically booked the massive, two-story Presidential Penthouse suite so the three of them could finally spend some quality time together.

But Vanessa had completely hijacked the trip.

Without asking, Vanessa had secretly invited three of her most obnoxious, status-obsessed friends. When they arrived at the resort, Vanessa marched directly to the front desk, aggressively intercepting the check-in process. She demanded the front desk agent split the reservation, handing the keys to the multi-million-dollar penthouse over to her freeloading friends, and relegating her mother-in-law to a tiny, basic standard room overlooking the parking lot.

Margaret stood on the polished marble floor, staring at the woman who had systematically isolated her from her only child for the last five years.

Vanessa smirked, flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder. She knew exactly what she was doing. She wanted to humiliate Margaret. She wanted to prove to her wealthy friends that she was the absolute queen of the family, and that the old woman was nothing more than a pathetic, invisible burden who would blindly pay the bills.
