Chapter 9 - The Eviction

"She... she owns it?" one of Vanessa's friends choked out, completely horrified, dropping her designer sunglasses onto the floor.
"Mom," Daniel stammered pathetically, his voice cracking with raw, unadulterated terror as he finally looked her in the eyes. "Mom, please, I had no idea..."
"You didn't need to know my net worth to treat me with basic human respect, Daniel," Margaret whispered coldly, her voice entirely devoid of maternal warmth. "You just had to be a decent son. And you failed."
Margaret turned her dark, calculating eyes toward her trembling daughter-in-law.
"Margaret, I'm so sorry!" Vanessa wept frantically, completely abandoning her high-society persona. She was hyperventilating, realizing her entire fake, wealthy lifestyle was permanently destroyed. "It was just a joke! We were going to share the suite! I swear!"
"Richard," Margaret stated clinically, completely ignoring the pathetic, crying woman in front of her.
"Yes, Mrs. Whitmore," Richard replied instantly, standing at attention.
"Cancel their reservations," Margaret commanded flawlessly, completely commanding the room. "All of them. I want these four women escorted off my private property immediately."
Vanessa let out an apocalyptic shriek of pure terror. "No! You can't do this! We flew six hours to get here! We don't have anywhere else to go!"
"Then I suggest you start walking toward the airport," Margaret replied ruthlessly. "Because if you are still standing in my lobby in exactly three minutes, Richard is going to call the local police and have you arrested for trespassing."
