Chapter 3 - The Cowardly Son

A tight close-up captured Daniel, Margaret's mid-thirties son.
He was standing slightly behind his aggressive wife, wearing a pale blue linen shirt and tailored beige trousers. But he wasn't looking at his mother. He wasn't looking at the gorgeous turquoise water outside the towering windows.
Daniel was entirely glued to his glowing smartphone screen.
"Daniel," Margaret said softly, her composed voice carrying a profound, agonizing weight. "This was supposed to be our family trip. I booked the penthouse for us."
Daniel didn't even look up. He kept his eyes locked on his phone, furiously typing a text message. He let out a long, heavy, theatrical sigh of pure annoyance, treating the woman who gave birth to him like a nagging toddler.
"Mom, please don't start," Daniel muttered, his voice flat and entirely apathetic. "Vanessa already promised the girls they could have the big room with the balcony. It's not a big deal. Just take the standard room. You go to sleep early anyway."
The cinematic realism of the absolute, crushing betrayal completely paralyzed Margaret.
Her own son wasn't just ignoring the blatant disrespect; he was actively enabling it. He was too cowardly, too weak, and too terrified of his wife's temper to simply tell her no. He was perfectly willing to let his mother be treated like a second-class citizen on a vacation she had entirely paid for, just to keep the peace.
Vanessa let out a loud, triumphant laugh, her cream resort outfit swishing as she turned to her three friends.

"See? Daniel agrees," Vanessa sneered, holding up the premium key-card envelope like a massive trophy. "Don't be a diva, Margaret. It's just a room. The bellhop will take your bag to the second floor."
👉 Margaret closed her eyes, the heartbroken mother finally vanishing, replaced entirely by a terrifying apex predator.
