Chapter 10 - The New Director

When they arrived at the St. Jude Children’s Shelter, the kids were still awake. The moment Luca walked through the doors carrying the warm foil containers, the room erupted into cheers.

Maya helped Chef Armand unpack the roasted chicken and fresh vegetables, serving the children with a massive, genuine smile. Watching the kids eat filled the hollow ache in her own chest. She had protected them.

As the night wound down, Luca walked over to Maya, who was wiping down the cafeteria tables.

"You have a remarkable moral compass, Maya," Luca said quietly, leaning against the doorframe. "It takes incredible courage to stand up to a Moretti."

Maya blushed, looking down at her black and white uniform. "I just knew what it felt like to be hungry, sir. I couldn't let her throw it away."

Maya’s heart dropped for a fraction of a second, but then Luca pulled a set of keys from his pocket and placed them gently on the table in front of her.

"The director of my charity foundation was just terminated," Luca said smoothly. "I need someone with actual empathy and unshakeable integrity to run the operation. The salary is six figures, and your primary job is to make sure no child in this city ever goes to sleep hungry again. Do you want the job?"

Maya gasped, her hands flying to her mouth as tears of pure, absolute joy spilled down her cheeks. She nodded vigorously, unable to even form the words to thank him.

Victoria lost her wealth, her status, and her family, ending up completely isolated. But Maya, the brave young woman in the maid uniform, stepped out of the shadows and into a life where she could finally change the world.

Do you think Luca’s punishment for his sister was fair, or should he have sent her straight to prison?
