Chapter 6 - The Piece of Paper

Chef Armand didn't look at Victoria. He walked right past the panicked woman in the burgundy gown and stopped directly beside Luca.
Without saying a single word, the older Chef reached into the pocket of his white uniform. He pulled out a folded, crumpled piece of paper. He extended his hand, placing the document directly into Luca’s palm.
Luca took the paper, holding his phone in his other hand. He slowly unfolded it.
As Luca’s eyes scanned the document, Victoria let out a sharp, horrified gasp. Her hands flew to her mouth, her eyes widening in absolute, paralyzing terror.
It was the original catering invoice and the event's financial ledger. Chef Armand had secretly pulled it from the event planner's desk when he noticed the kitchen staff was being ordered to dump perfectly good food.
The paper didn't just show that the food was safe. It showed a forged signature.
Victoria had officially signed off on the $100,000 charity donation early that morning. But the routing numbers at the bottom of the page didn't belong to the St. Jude Children’s Shelter. The funds had been secretly redirected into a private, offshore shell account registered under Victoria’s name.
She had stolen the orphanage’s winter survival fund. And she had ordered the leftover food trashed tonight so there would be no physical paper trail connecting the caterers to the shelter.
