Chapter 46 - the phantom appears
The gunfire in the corridor abruptly ceased, replaced by a chilling, heavy silence. Heavy boots slowly approached the delivery room doors.
"Massimo," a raspy, demonic voice echoed through the bullet-riddled hallway. "You traded an empire of blood for an empire of bandages. Look how easily it burns."
The doors were slowly pushed open. Silas stood there, his face heavily scarred from the fire that had supposedly claimed his life. He held a customized assault rifle, pointing it directly at the delivery room.
Before he could take a step inside, Massimo emerged from the shadows of the adjacent scrub room, his weapon pressed squarely against the side of Silas's skull.
"You should have stayed in the ashes, old man," Massimo whispered, his voice dripping with pure, concentrated venom.
Silas merely chuckled. "Kill me, and my men will detonate the explosive charges planted in the hospital's foundation. We all die together."
