Chapter 5 - The Rat in the House

That evening, the mansion grew deathly quiet. Tessa stayed late in the ground-floor medical archive, reviewing Massimo’s neurological scans, searching for any sign of nerve regeneration.

Suddenly, the heavy oak door creaked open.

Heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway. Tessa slipped quietly into the shadows of a supply alcove, peering through the crack.

It was Dominic.

The slick, ambitious underboss walked into Massimo’s private study, accompanied by a corrupt personal physician on Massimo's payroll.

"Is the dosage high enough?" Dominic asked in a low, venomous whisper.

"Yes," the corrupt doctor replied nervously. "The heavy sedatives I'm mixing into his evening water will keep his nervous system suppressed, preventing any muscle recovery. If we keep this up for another month, his legs will atrophy permanently, and the capos will legally vote you in as the permanent boss."

Tessa’s blood ran cold. They weren't just neglecting Massimo—they were actively poisoning him to steal his empire, making him believe his paralysis was permanent.

She gripped her phone tightly in her pocket, recording every single word of the confession.

Suddenly, a floorboard creaked under her shoe.
