Chapter 1 - The Thanksgiving Humiliation

The massive dining room of the luxury family mansion was a breathtaking display of Thanksgiving elegance. Magnificent crystal chandeliers cast a warm, golden lighting over a massive, polished wooden table. The table groaned under the weight of an extravagant feast—roasted turkey, artisan mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and stunning autumn floral arrangements. Expensive crystal wineglasses caught the light among elegant gold decorations.
But the atmosphere around the table was incredibly, violently toxic.
Claire, a thirty-two-year-old woman with beautiful, long wavy brown hair, sat quietly at the end of the table. She wore a simple but elegant black blazer over a fitted black top. She remained perfectly calm, though the emotional hurt was deeply visible in her natural micro-expressions.
Standing right beside Claire was her brother-in-law, Ethan. He was in his mid-thirties, incredibly handsome with thick dark brown hair, wearing a sharp navy blue business suit, a crisp white dress shirt, and a dark gray tie. Ethan was a newly appointed head surgeon, and his arrogance radiated like a dark, suffocating cloud.
Standing near the head of the table was Claire’s mother, Margaret. Wearing a sleeveless red evening dress and a heavy pearl necklace, Margaret smugly gestured toward Claire, intentionally drawing the attention of the twenty wealthy relatives seated around the room.
"Look at the absolute difference in my daughters," Margaret announced loudly, a vicious, mocking smile on her face. "Vanessa married a brilliant surgeon. Ethan saves lives. Meanwhile, Claire cleans bathrooms for a living!"
A cruel, suppressed ripple of laughter echoed from the elegantly dressed aunts and uncles around the Thanksgiving table.

Claire didn't burst into tears. She didn't scream at her mother. She simply stared straight ahead, her hands folded neatly in her lap, enduring the brutal, public humiliation with quiet, unbreakable dignity.
👉 Ethan smirked, completely unaware that the woman he was mocking held the absolute power to destroy his entire career.
