Chapter 4 - The Matriarch's Fury

A wide cinematic shot captured the intense, heavy atmosphere of the luxurious dining room.
Evelyn, Claire’s eighty-year-old grandmother, sat near the head of the table. She was a fiercely composed woman with short silver-white hair, wearing an elegant black sparkling evening jacket and heavy pearl earrings. She had remained completely silent for the entire dinner, watching her children and grandchildren brutally mock Claire.
But Evelyn had finally reached her absolute limit.
Evelyn suddenly rose from her heavy wooden chair. The scrape of the chair against the hardwood floor echoed loudly, instantly freezing the toxic laughter of the relatives.
Evelyn didn't just stand up; she radiated a terrifying, old-world authority. She aggressively pointed her trembling, manicured finger directly at Claire’s mother, Margaret.
"Shut your mouth, Margaret!" Evelyn roared, her voice booming across the grand dining room with shocking, undeniable power.
The entire family completely froze. Margaret’s smug smile violently vanished, her face turning pale as she stared at her furious mother-in-law.
"You sit in this house that my late husband built, and you dare to humiliate my granddaughter?" Evelyn demanded, her eyes burning with pure, unadulterated fury. "You call her a failure? You call her a janitor?"
Ethan frowned, stepping forward to defend his mother-in-law. "Grandma, be reasonable. We were just making a joke about Claire's job—"
"I wasn't speaking to you, Ethan!" Evelyn snapped viciously, cutting him off completely. She turned her fierce gaze back to Margaret and Vanessa.
Evelyn took a deep breath, preparing to completely shatter the family's arrogant delusion.
