Chapter 1 - The Brutal Strike

Evan lay violently curled on the blue training mat, gasping desperately for air.

The thirteen-year-old boy was the absolute smallest student in the entire martial arts class. He was thin, shy, and deeply sensitive, with messy brown hair and frightened blue-gray eyes. He wore a simple white training uniform that now felt entirely suffocating as he clutched his bruised ribs in sheer agony.

Standing directly over him was Blake Haron.

Blake was a twenty-nine-year-old, five-time state kickboxing champion and the lead instructor of the dojo. He was incredibly tall, heavily muscular, with short dark hair and a smug, aggressive expression. He wore a traditional blue uniform with a heavy black belt. Blake loved to humiliate his weaker students in front of the crowd to feed his own massive, toxic ego.

"Get up, Evan!" Blake barked loudly, his voice echoing through the silent gym. "I said full contact! Stop crying like a baby!"

Several parents sitting in the metal bleachers shifted uncomfortably, but no one dared to speak up against the arrogant champion.

Suddenly, a heavy set of footsteps echoed across the hardwood floor.

Damon Garrett walked calmly onto the training mat. He was Evan’s forty-two-year-old father, working a quiet job as an overnight maintenance man. Damon was tall, ruggedly handsome, and heavily muscular, wearing faded blue work pants and a stained grey t-shirt.

Damon didn't yell. He dropped to his knees beside his gasping son, gently running his large, calloused hand over the boy’s ribs to check for fractures.

Damon slowly looked up. His piercing blue-gray eyes locked entirely onto Blake.

"Apologize to my son," Damon commanded. His voice was incredibly deep, quiet, and vibrated with a cold, absolute authority.

👉 Blake laughed in the father's face, completely unaware that he had just awakened a sleeping monster.
