Chapter 3 - The Fatal Miss

Blake cracked his knuckles, a toxic, arrogant smirk spreading across his heavily stubbled face.

"Ready, maintenance man?" Blake mocked loudly, his voice echoing off the walls as the parents pulled out their cell phones to record the humiliation.

Without a single second of warning, Blake exploded forward with terrifying, athletic speed. He threw a devastating, full-power right punch aimed directly at Damon’s jaw, fully intending to knock the older man completely unconscious in front of his son.

Damon didn't flinch. He didn't scramble backward.

With blinding, surgical precision, Damon barely tilted his head. The massive fist missed his nose by less than an inch.

In the exact same microsecond, Damon shifted his weight entirely to his back foot, twisting his hips with a fluid, terrifyingly efficient movement that instantly changed the energy in the entire room. He didn't strike back. He just casually stepped into Blake’s blind spot, leaving the champion punching empty air.

Up in the bleachers, Walter Briggs slowly rose from his metal seat.

All the color completely drained from the old Marine’s weathered face. He stared down at Damon in absolute, unadulterated disbelief.

"That movement..." Walter whispered to himself, his rough voice breathless and trembling with profound shock. "I know exactly what he is."
