Chapter 1 - The Invisible Servant

The grand luxury dining room was a masterpiece of intimidating wealth. Glowing crystal chandeliers cast long shadows against the black and gold paneled walls.
Grant Maddox sat at the center of the VIP table. The late-thirties mafia boss was undeniably handsome, wearing an unbuttoned black shirt that revealed a chest covered in lethal syndicate tattoos. He was currently finalizing a massive, nine-hundred-million-dollar laundering contract with Tariq, a ruthless representative of a global overseas cartel.
I stood quietly right beside Grant, holding a heavy silver tray.
I was Emma. A twenty-four-year-old waitress with my dark hair pinned back, wearing a classic black and white uniform with a stiff white collar. To Grant Maddox, I was completely invisible. I was just a peasant pouring expensive wine.
Grant arrogantly slammed the massive, thick contract folder onto the white tablecloth. He leaned back in his chair, laughing coldly with Tariq.
"Servants hear everything and understand nothing," Grant mocked, speaking in rapid, flawless Arabic, assuming I was just a clueless American girl.
He leaned closer to his associate, resting his hand near his face with a condescending smirk, and continued to openly insult my intelligence in Arabic right to my face.
I didn't flinch. I didn't drop my tray. I gracefully stepped forward and set his plate of food down on the pristine white tablecloth, my expression perfectly, chillingly composed.
Then, I stood tall, looked directly down at the feared mafia boss, and spoke.

"Arrogant men never notice when someone understands everything," I replied in absolutely flawless, native-level Arabic.
👉 Grant’s mocking laughter died instantly, but the linguistic shock was nothing compared to what I was about to do to his empire.
