Chapter 5 - The Flipped Loyalty

The cinematic realism of Grant’s absolute shock was breathtaking.
The two guards raised their weapons and aimed them directly at Grant Maddox’s head.
Grant froze, his hand suspended in mid-air. He looked at his own loyal men, completely paralyzed by the catastrophic betrayal.
"What are you doing?!" Grant wailed in panic. "I pay your salaries! Put the guns down!"
Tariq, the cartel boss, let out a dark, booming laugh that echoed off the gold-paneled walls. He slowly stood up from the table, adjusting his tailored suit jacket.
"You don't pay them anymore, Grant," Tariq stated smoothly. "Emma contacted my syndicate three days ago. She provided us with the preliminary bank statements proving you were planning to double-cross us tonight. She advised me to buy out your security detail before I walked into this restaurant."
Grant’s jaw physically dropped. He looked at me, realizing I had entirely checkmated the most feared mafia boss in the city while wearing an apron.
I hadn't just exposed him at the table. I had orchestrated a complete, flawless coup, stripping him of his protection, his money, and his powerful allies before the appetizers were even served.
"Tariq, please," Grant begged, dropping to his knees on the floor, weeping pathetically. "I can fix this! I'll give you the fifty million! I'll give you double! Don't let her do this to me!"
