Chapter 10 - The New Era

Exactly one month later, the towering glass skyscraper of Sterling Enterprises stood proudly in the center of the city's financial district.
I didn't walk through the lobby wearing a black and white waitress uniform.
I strode through the massive glass doors wearing a flawless, custom-tailored white power suit. The entire corporate staff—many of whom had worked under my father—stopped and applauded as I walked toward the private executive elevator.
I rode up to the top floor and stepped into the massive corner office. I sat down in my father's heavy leather chair, looking out over the sprawling city skyline. The company was completely purged of Maddox’s corrupt loyalists. The legitimate, multi-billion-dollar empire was finally clean, secure, and entirely mine.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, Grant Maddox sat shivering in a dark, cold maximum-security federal cell. He didn't sleep. He couldn't eat. Every time a guard walked past his bars, or a fellow inmate looked at him in the yard, he flinched in sheer terror, knowing the cartel's assassins were just waiting for the perfect moment to collect Tariq's debt.
The arrogant monster who thought servants understood nothing had been completely destroyed by the very woman who served his food.

I opened the pristine financial ledgers on my desk, my mind sharp, my empire absolutely untouchable.
If you were Emma, would you have warned Grant about the cartel's prison threat, or was letting him live in pure paranoia the ultimate, perfect justice?
