Chapter 4 - The Undercover Accountant

For five agonizing years, I had lived in the shadows.

When the police ruled my father’s fatal car crash a "tragic accident," I knew the truth. Grant Maddox had severed the brake lines to orchestrate a hostile takeover. I had lost my father, my inheritance, and my safety in a single night.

Instead of crying, I went to war. I studied international finance. I mastered three languages, including Arabic, specifically to track the overseas cartels Grant was doing business with. I spent the last eight months working grueling double shifts as a waitress at this exact restaurant, knowing it was Grant’s favorite place to conduct his illegal, high-level meetings.

I didn't just pour his wine. I memorized his schedules. I read upside-down documents. I waited for the perfect moment when he would be stupid enough to sign a massive, fraudulent deal right in front of the people he was robbing.

"Arthur is dead," Grant choked out, his chest heaving with sheer, unadulterated terror.

"But his daughter isn't," I replied coldly.

"Shoot her!" Grant screamed at the top of his lungs, pointing a shaking finger at my chest. "I don't care if the cartel is here! Kill her right now!"

The two massive, heavily armed guards in the background immediately drew their suppressed handguns.
