Chapter 45 - father's key

Caroline immediately drove back to the family estate with Thomas in the dead of night. The mansion was eerily quiet, with only the wind howling through the trees. She ran straight into her father's old study.

Her father was an incredibly cautious man. He never stored vital survival information on electronic devices. His most important secrets were kept in the most traditional and secretive ways.

Caroline scanned the massive bookshelves, searching for a clue. She remembered the day he gave her the emerald necklace. "True wealth doesn't lie in the jewels, but in where we keep them," he had once said.

She rushed over to the hidden safe behind a wall painting, using her fingerprint to open it. Inside the safe was the velvet box holding the necklace, but Caroline ignored the jewelry. She flipped the velvet box over.

Just as expected, hidden beneath the red velvet lining was a small piece of paper with a complex hexadecimal sequence. It was the ultimate override code, the only thing that could isolate the servers and halt the attack.
