Chapter 92 - the midnight ultimatum

It was a quiet Friday evening in the executive tower. Caroline was reviewing the final schematics for a revolutionary new community hospital when the heavy glass doors of her private top-floor office were violently kicked open.

Three heavily armed Russian mercenaries stormed into the room, flanking a tall, arrogant man in a tailored gray suit. Alexei Volkov smiled coldly, tossing a heavy, blood-stained silver watch onto the mahogany desk. It belonged to one of her perimeter guards.

"Your empire destroyed my family's syndicate decades ago," Alexei sneered, his deep voice thick with a chilling accent. "Now, I am collecting the interest. Sign over the commercial shipping ports by midnight, or my men will burn Chicago to the ground."

Caroline didn't panic or flinch. Inheriting her father's terrifyingly cold composure, the undisputed queen sat perfectly still at the head of the desk, radiating an absolute, suffocating authority.
