Chapter 7 - The Damning Evidence

Thomas walked over to the nearest luxury dining table, unceremoniously pushing aside a massive arrangement of pristine white flowers.
He placed the heavy brown leather briefcase flat on the table. With two loud, incredibly sharp metallic CLACKS, he unlatched the heavy brass locks and flipped the lid entirely open.
The Bride stared at the open briefcase in absolute, unadulterated horror. She was fully expecting to see the three million dollars in bribe money returned to her.
But there was no cash inside the briefcase.
Instead, resting securely on top of a stack of highly classified legal documents, was a jagged, completely severed piece of heavy rubber and steel tubing. It was a brake line from a luxury sedan, and it hadn't snapped in an accident. It had been cleanly, deliberately, and surgically cut with heavy mechanical shears.
"As you can see, Arthur," Thomas spoke for the first time, his deep voice addressing the stunned Father directly, "the local police were entirely incompetent. Caroline's car didn't veer off the road by accident. The brake lines were intentionally severed."
The Father stared at the severed metal tube, his mind completely reeling. "But... the strangulation? Who did this?"
Thomas reached into the brown briefcase and pulled out a thick stack of high-resolution, incredibly clear 8x10 glossy photographs. He tossed them violently across the white tablecloth, ensuring every single guest standing nearby could clearly see them.
The photographs didn't show a random hitman.
They were crystal-clear surveillance images showing the Bride, wearing a dark hoodie, handing a massive, thick envelope of cash directly to a known, violent mechanic in a dark alleyway just three days before Caroline's brakes completely failed.

"Your youngest daughter paid fifty thousand dollars to have your eldest daughter's car sabotaged," Thomas stated coldly, completely destroying the Bride's entire life in a single, devastating sentence.
