Chapter 32 - the midnight breach

It was a quiet Friday evening in the Vance executive tower. Lily was working alone in the top-floor corner office, reviewing the final schematics for a revolutionary new smart-city grid, when her secure terminal violently flashed a harsh, warning red.

The entire skyscraper plunged into a sudden, deliberate blackout. The backup generators were instantly disabled by a highly coordinated external override. The emergency klaxons remained eerily silent. It was an absolute, flawless physical perimeter breach.

Lily didn't panic or reach for the phone to call security. Inheriting Arthur's unyielding composure, she calmly opened the hidden compartment beneath her desk. She withdrew a heavy, loaded tactical sidearm, checking the chamber with smooth, practiced ease.

Footsteps echoed softly down the dark marble corridor outside her office. Three armed corporate mercenaries, equipped with thermal night-vision goggles, kicked open the heavy glass doors. They expected to find a terrified, helpless young executive.
