Chapter 5 - The Stolen Life

The warm golden lighting of the enormous marble hallway suddenly felt incredibly cold.

Gabriel slowly stood up from the floor. He didn't yell. His quietness was infinitely more terrifying. He walked deliberately across the polished marble, stopping mere inches away from the trembling housekeeper.

"How do you know that name?" Gabriel whispered, his voice completely devoid of human mercy.

Elena swallowed her agonizing fear. She didn't look up at him. "I just... I heard one of the guards say it once, Mr. Serrano. Please, don't hurt us. We'll pack our bags and leave immediately."

"You're lying," Gabriel stated clinically, his dark eyes flashing with lethal danger. "The guards don't know that name. I have never spoken that name out loud since the night my house burned to the ground."

Elena physically staggered backward, her hands shaking violently as she desperately tried to protect the massive secret she had hidden for seven long years.

"Mr. Serrano, please," Elena wept softly, tears finally falling down her rosy cheeks. "I'm just a maid. I needed a job to feed my daughter. I don't know anything about your past."

Gabriel didn't argue with her. He reached out with blinding, terrifying speed and gently grabbed Elena’s left hand, lifting her palm up to the crystal chandelier's light.
