Chapter 2 - The Innocent Gaze

The cinematic tension in the grand marble corridor was absolutely suffocating.

Rosa stood completely paralyzed in the background, clutching the white towels to her chest, her natural breathing suspended. She fully expected the ruthless, tattooed mob boss to roar in anger and order his massive security guards to throw them both out into the street.

Dante slowly turned his head. His dark, cold eyes locked onto the tiny girl standing just a foot behind him.

Sophia didn't flinch. She didn't scream or run back to her mother.

A tight, cinematic close-up captured Sophia’s face. She looked straight up at the towering, terrifying giant with completely clear, wide, innocent brown eyes. In a house filled with criminals, bodyguards, and killers, she saw absolutely no monster.

"You look lonely," Sophia stated sweetly, her tiny voice echoing softly against the cold marble walls.

The entire corridor seemed to stop breathing.

Dante stared down at her. His jaw, clenched tight from years of violence and betrayal, suddenly relaxed. The terrifying, impenetrable mask of the mafia boss completely broke.

To Rosa's absolute shock, Dante let out a slow, deep, and incredibly rare genuine laugh. It was a sound that hadn't been heard in the mansion for over two years.
