Chapter 48 - the flooded control room

Our armored SUV screeched to a halt outside the massive, imposing structure of the Chicago hydroelectric dam. The roar of millions of gallons of rushing water echoed deafeningly through the cold night air.

The outer security gates had already been sabotaged and blown wide open by Julian’s syndicate operatives. Inside the main control building, the emergency klaxons were wailing in a frantic, rhythmic pulse, flashing harsh red warning lights across the wet concrete floors.

Dominic and I breached the central control room, weapons drawn. Three syndicate mercenaries were guarding the massive manual override wheel, attempting to weld the chains shut so the floodgates couldn't be closed.

We moved with terrifying, synchronized precision. I engaged the first two guards, dropping them with sweeping leg kicks and precise palm strikes, while Dominic slammed the third mercenary headfirst into the heavy steel control panel.
