Chapter 25 - the queen's gambit

While Dante mobilized his massive underground army, Elena refused to simply wait behind marble walls. She remembered the dark, horrific years she had spent locked in Marcus's warehouse.

During her captivity, she had overheard Marcus whispering about elite phantom hitmen and their secret communication protocols. Elena walked into Dante’s war room, instantly commanding the attention of the city's most dangerous men.

"They don't use phones or the internet to receive their assassination contracts," Elena stated flawlessly, her voice echoing with absolute authority. "They use the old, forgotten underground pneumatic tube systems beneath the financial district."

Dante looked at his brilliant wife with overwhelming, fierce pride. She had just handed him the exact key to their enemy's throat.

Dante immediately dispatched his most elite, silent operatives into the dark, damp subterranean tunnels beneath Chicago. They didn't destroy the tube system; they rigged it. They intercepted a heavily encoded message capsule meant for the lead assassin.
