Chapter 26 - shielding a life

Caleb's car smashed through the school gates, braking hard in front of the library doors. Disregarding his own safety, he charged straight inside with his gun drawn. The father's heart pounded incessantly.
Inside, Celeste was cornering Daisy against the wall. The guards were injured and lying scattered around. She laughed maniacally, her finger slowly squeezing the trigger. "Die, you brat!" she screamed, hatred blinding all her reason.
"No!" Caleb roared, lunging forward to shield Daisy. A deafening gunshot fired. A bullet pierced straight into Caleb's left shoulder, fresh blood gushing out and staining his white dress shirt red. He dropped to his knees.
Capitalizing on the moment Celeste was caught off guard, Marcus and the special task force stormed in from behind, firing and taking her down instantly. Celeste collapsed onto the floor, her eyes wide open in resentment, ending her sinful life.
"Dad!" Daisy sobbed loudly, hugging Caleb tightly. His blood stained her school uniform. Caleb gritted his teeth against the pain, reaching up to caress his daughter's tear-streaked face, trying to force a smile.
