Chapter 27 - a mother's tears

At the central hospital, Marisol ran down the hallway with a pale face, tears streaming down and soaking her cheeks. When she heard Caleb had been shot protecting Daisy, her world seemed to collapse completely.
She rushed to the emergency room, where Daisy sat in a daze with bloodstains on her shirt. Marisol hugged her daughter tightly, kissing her forehead repeatedly. "Thank God, you are okay. How is Dad Caleb?" she sobbed, pressing for answers.
The emergency room light remained a glaring red. Marcus stood pensively leaning against the wall, his face full of tension. The bullet was lodged near the aorta; the billionaire's condition was incredibly critical. The entire Blackwell empire seemed to hold its breath.
A few hours passed, feeling as long as a century. Finally, the exhausted surgeon stepped out. Marisol and Daisy rushed over, their hearts choking as they waited for a miracle. The doctor took off his mask, breathing a sigh of relief.
"The surgery was successful. Mr. Blackwell has passed the critical stage," the doctor smiled and said. Marisol covered her face and burst into tears of extreme joy. The man who had taken them in had once again sacrificed himself for them.
