Chapter 5 - The Innocent Witness

As the guard's heavy hand clamped down onto Marisol’s shoulder, something completely unexpected happened.
Daisy, who had been sobbing uncontrollably into her mother’s chest, suddenly stopped crying.
The abrupt, jarring silence from the toddler was somehow louder than her tears had been. Marisol immediately felt the shift in her daughter's tiny body. The shaking stopped. The little hands that had been clutching Marisol’s apron slowly let go.
"Daisy, don't look, baby, just keep your eyes closed," Marisol whispered frantically in a panicked rush, trying to press the child's head back down into her shoulder. She knew how cruel the world could be, and she didn't want her innocent daughter's final memory of this night to be the monstrous faces of angry billionaires.
But Daisy didn't listen.
The three-year-old wriggled her small body, forcing herself to turn around in her mother's desperate, protective grip. She lifted her little head, her messy brown curls bouncing slightly as she looked directly up at the towering, furious figure of the bride.
Daisy raised her small, chubby hand and clumsily wiped the sticky golden frosting and salty tears from her cheek. As the sugar cleared from her face, her expression completely transformed. The sheer, overwhelming terror that had possessed her just moments ago completely vanished.
In its place was a look of pure, fierce, and innocent defiance. It was a look so intense, so completely out of place on a toddler's face, that the security guard standing above them actually hesitated, slowly pulling his hand away from Marisol's shoulder.
