Chapter 14 - the night raid
Three nights after the fire at the pier, a thick fog enveloped the isolated estate of the Moretti family. Alessandro had mobilized his most elite gunmen, creating an impenetrable defensive perimeter.
Inside the mansion, Elena was sleeping soundly when she was suddenly startled by a strange noise. The alarm siren was abruptly cut off. The lighting system around the grounds completely shut down, signaling a large-scale raid was happening outside.
Elena didn't scream in panic. The resilient nature of someone who had been through many hardships helped her maintain her composure. She hastily rushed into Don Vincenzo's room, finding the old man trembling in bed with his eyes wide open in terror.
"It's okay, sir, I'm here," Elena whispered, gently helping him sit up and pushing the wheelchair toward the steel-reinforced safe room in the basement.
