Chapter 4 - The Vicious Lie

Mrs. Gable’s arrogant composure finally cracked. A flash of genuine panic crossed her perfectly contoured face as she saw Alessandro staring at the brutal bruise on his father's arm.
"Mr. Moretti, please don't be alarmed!" Mrs. Gable stammered quickly, taking a step forward. She aggressively pointed a manicured finger directly at the young maid kneeling on the floor. "It was her! Elena is completely incompetent! She gripped him too hard while trying to move him from the bed this morning!"
Elena gasped softly, her brown eyes widening in sheer shock at the malicious accusation.
"She is entirely untrained!" Mrs. Gable continued, her voice pitching higher with desperate malice. "I was just about to fire her and have security escort her off the premises before you arrived! She is a danger to your father!"
Alessandro didn't yell. He didn't jump up and draw a weapon. The cinematic realism of his sheer, unbreakable calm was far more terrifying than any violent outburst.
He looked at Elena. The young maid was shaking, terrified of the mafia boss, but she didn't run. She gently placed Vincenzo’s hand back onto the armrest of the wheelchair, refusing to abandon the old man to save herself.
