Chapter 15 - the brave angel
The sound of hurried footsteps echoed in the hallway. Lorenzo's forces had breached the final line of defense, infiltrating the interior of the magnificent mansion. They split up, ransacking every room in search of their target.
Elena pushed Don Vincenzo's wheelchair close to the secret vault door hidden behind a massive bookshelf in the library. But before she could enter the code, the library door was kicked open. Two hitmen armed with automatic weapons appeared.
"Take the old man alive, and kill the bitch!" one hitman ordered coldly, pointing the dark barrel of his gun at Elena.
Vincenzo babbled incoherently, tears streaming down in despair. He wanted to protect this kind-hearted girl, but his paralyzed body wouldn't allow it. Elena forcefully pushed his wheelchair into a blind spot, then bravely stood in front to shield him.

She had no gun, but her eyes held not a single trace of fear. "You will have to step over my dead body if you want to touch him," Elena declared firmly, her voice small but containing the boundless power of bravery.
