Chapter 2 - The Cold Dismissal

The cinematic tension in the grand hallway spiked instantly.
Mrs. Gable immediately straightened her posture, smoothing down the front of her expensive black suit. She didn't look nervous. She looked completely arrogant, entirely confident in her absolute control over the estate.
She stepped forward, placing herself between the mafia boss and the old man in the wheelchair.
"She's just doing her chores, Mr. Moretti," Mrs. Gable stated, her voice dripping with cold, absolute dismissiveness. "Nothing more. Vincenzo simply made a mess of his lunch again. The new girl is just cleaning him up."
Alessandro’s slow, calculating eye movement shifted to the young maid.
Elena didn't scramble backward in fear, and she didn't avert her eyes. She remained kneeling on the marble floor, her hands still gently holding the old man’s frail, trembling fingers. Her realistic facial micro-expressions radiated pure, unadulterated compassion.
She looked up at the terrifying, tattooed mafia boss.
"I only wanted to make sure he was cared for properly," Elena said. Her voice wasn't loud, but it was incredibly sincere and gentle, completely cutting through the manager's toxic lies.
Alessandro frowned, the muscles in his jaw tightening. He looked down at the old man in the wheelchair. This wasn't just any elderly patient. This was Don Vincenzo Moretti, Alessandro’s father and the former king of the Chicago syndicate. A severe stroke had left him paralyzed and unable to speak a year ago.
