Chapter 56 - the deadly confrontation
The lead mercenary sneered, completely underestimating the young heir. "You're outnumbered, Cross. Dr. Vane sends his regards."
Before the mercenary could raise his weapon, Cerberus launched from the shadows. The hundred-and-fifty-pound beast hit the mercenary like a freight train, pinning him violently to the concrete floor, its massive jaws snapping inches from his throat.
The remaining mercenaries panicked, raising their rifles. But Julian's strike team dropped from the skylights above on rappelling lines, unleashing a barrage of non-lethal, high-impact rubber bullets and flashbangs.
The laboratory erupted into absolute chaos. Julian sprinted directly through the smoke and gunfire, ignoring the danger entirely. He reached Clara, using his combat knife to expertly slice through her thick plastic restraints.
"I've got you," Julian whispered fiercely, shielding her body with his own as the firefight raged around them.
"Julian, look out!" Clara screamed, pointing behind him.
