Chapter 10 - The Twin Heirs

The chaotic, violent energy of the night completely evaporated from the city.
Damien walked into the grand luxury penthouse overlooking the glittering Chicago skyline. He dropped his weapon on the marble table, washing the blood and dirt from his hands.
He walked quietly into the massive, warmly lit bedroom.
Sleeping peacefully in the center of the massive king-sized bed were Sophie and Ruby. They were curled up together, absolutely identical. Ruby wasn't wearing her faded, dirty dress anymore. She was wearing one of Sophie’s clean, soft silk pajamas. The beige stuffed rabbit was resting perfectly between them.
Damien walked over and sat gently on the edge of the mattress.
He reached out with his massive, tattooed hand and gently brushed the chestnut curls away from Ruby’s face. He traced the silver blackbird pendant resting on her chest, tears of pure, overwhelming joy finally spilling down his cheeks.
The agonizing, suffocating hole in his heart was finally closed. His wife was avenged. His bloodline was secure.
The next morning, Damien completely dismantled the violent branches of his syndicate. He used his massive wealth to build a legitimate, untouchable empire, ensuring his daughters would never have to grow up in the shadows of the underworld.
Silas was permanently erased by the Russian cartel, his name completely forgotten by the city.

And as Damien walked down the upscale Chicago sidewalk a month later, holding the hands of both his beautiful, identical daughters, everyone knew the feared mafia boss had finally found his true kingdom.
If you were Damien, would you have handed the doctor over to the police, or was letting her flee the country the ultimate, perfect justice?
