Chapter 52 - the ultimatum
Sophie calmly opened the heavy envelope. Inside was a formal subpoena to testify before a senate committee, accompanied by an implicit ultimatum from Vance: hand over the management rights of the foundation, or face fabricated tax evasion charges.
Ruby stepped into the office, placing a thick dossier on the mahogany desk. The face of the fierce sister was as sharp and cold as ice. She had accompanied Sophie through countless storms, and knew perfectly well the level of danger of the enemy this time.
"Vance has bribed more than half of the committee members," Ruby reported, her deep voice containing cold indignation. "He has prepared a dirty media campaign to smear our family's honor before the hearing even takes place."
Sophie stood up, her gray eyes flashing with a razor-sharp, terrifying glint. The twins had never backed down before any extortionist, no matter how immense a political power facade that person hid behind.

"We never negotiate with despicable corrupt men," Sophie declared firmly. "Turn over every single hidden corner of Vance's life for me. We will completely and utterly destroy him right now."
