Chapter 4 - The Ghost Doctor

The woman in the beige coat finally burst through the crowd of pedestrians, rushing toward the sidewalk flower stand.

She wasn't Ruby's biological mother.

Damien recognized her instantly. It was Dr. Evelyn Hayes. Five years ago, she had been the lead obstetrician at the private cartel-funded hospital. She was the woman who had walked out of the surgical theater covered in blood, handed him tiny Sophie, and solemnly pronounced his wife dead from severe hemorrhaging.

When Evelyn looked up and saw Damien Moretti standing over the identical twin girls, all the color violently drained from her face.

She physically staggered backward, dropping her cheap purse onto the concrete. The sheer, unadulterated terror hijacking her nervous system was breathtaking.

"Damien..." Dr. Hayes gasped, her voice barely a whisper. She looked like she had just seen the devil himself.

Damien didn't yell. The terrifying, untouchable king of the underworld simply stepped forward. He didn't draw a weapon, but the cold, demonic aura radiating from his broad shoulders made the pedestrians unconsciously step away.

"You told me she was the only one," Damien growled softly, pointing a shaking finger at Sophie, then looking directly at Ruby. "You told me there was only one heartbeat."

Dr. Hayes began to hyperventilate. She reached out, desperately trying to grab Ruby’s hand to run.

"Don't you touch her," Damien commanded, his voice vibrating with lethal, absolute authority.

👉 The doctor was completely trapped, and her terrifying confession on the sidewalk was about to rewrite Damien's entire existence.
