Chapter 7 - The Warehouse Trap

Three hours later, the sun had set, plunging the city into darkness.
Silas Moretti, wearing a sharp grey suit, walked confidently into an abandoned, dimly lit shipping warehouse on the south side of Chicago. He was flanked by six heavily armed, corrupt mercenaries he had hired entirely off the syndicate's books.
He was carrying a heavy metal briefcase filled with five million dollars in untraceable cash. He fully intended to hand the money to the doctor, and then immediately order his men to execute her to permanently silence the secret.
"Evelyn!" Silas called out, his voice echoing through the massive, empty building. "I brought the money! Come out!"
Dr. Hayes stepped out from behind a stack of rusted shipping containers, trembling violently.
"Silas..." she stammered, pointing to the metal briefcase. "Put it on the ground."
Silas smirked, an arrogant, toxic smile spreading across his face. He dropped the briefcase onto the concrete. "You really are stupid, Evelyn. You should have drowned the brat when I paid you the first time."
Silas raised his hand, signaling his mercenaries to draw their suppressed weapons to kill the doctor.
But before a single gun could be raised, the massive steel doors of the warehouse violently slammed shut.
The overhead industrial lights flared to blinding life.

Standing on the steel catwalk above them, completely surrounding Silas and his six men, were forty of Damien’s most elite, fiercely loyal syndicate enforcers. Every single one of them had a high-powered rifle aimed directly at the traitor.
👉 Silas realized he was entirely surrounded, and the dead man walking toward him was going to destroy his soul.
