Chapter 22 - the digital breach

Sophie was reviewing quarterly reports in her executive corner office when the heavy, impenetrable darkness swallowed the skyscraper. The backup generators failed to engage, indicating a highly coordinated external override. She didn't panic or scream for security.
Inheriting her father's terrifyingly cold composure, she calmly pulled a sleek, military-grade encrypted tablet from her desk. She bypassed the compromised mainframe, accessing the isolated, analog security feeds hidden throughout the building.
Ruby marched into the office, her hand resting easily near her holstered weapon. The twins operated as a flawless, highly focused unit.
"It's not a physical assault, Sophie," Ruby reported, her flashlight beam cutting through the dark. "They hijacked the central servers. They are demanding fifty million dollars in untraceable cryptocurrency, or they will leak our proprietary algorithms."
