Chapter 18 - the dark plot

Marcus Vance operated with the calculating precision of a psychopath. Assaulting Adrian's penthouse or Sophie's headquarters was absolute suicide. Instead, he directed his heavily armed rogue mercenaries toward the quiet suburban estate where Mrs. Ellis resided.
On a freezing, stormy Tuesday evening, the estate's advanced biometric security grid suffered a massive blackout. The backup generators failed to engage, indicating a highly coordinated external override.
Inside the warm living room, Mrs. Ellis was knitting quietly by the fireplace. Suddenly, the heavy glass patio doors violently shattered inward. Four armed mercenaries wearing dark tactical gear poured into the room, their suppressed weapons raised.
The elderly woman didn't scream. She simply clutched her shawl, her fragile hands trembling as the ruthless intruders surrounded her chair.
