Chapter 48 - the ultimatum
Sophie calmly opened the envelope in her executive office. Inside was a formal subpoena to testify before a senate committee, accompanied by an implicit ultimatum: hand over the management rights of the foundation immediately, or face fabricated tax evasion charges.
Adrian stepped into the office, placing a thick dossier on the mahogany desk. Inheriting his terrifyingly cold composure, Sophie's face was a mask of absolute, unyielding stone. She operated flawlessly and lethally.
"Sterling has bribed half of the committee members," Adrian reported, his voice containing a low rumble of cold indignation. "He has prepared a dirty media campaign to completely smear our family's honor before the hearing takes place."
Sophie stood up, her dark eyes flashing with a razor-sharp glint. The queen of the Voss empire had never backed down before any extortionist, no matter how immense a political facade that person hid behind.

"We never negotiate with despicable corrupt men," Sophie declared firmly. "Turn over every single hidden corner of Sterling's life. We will destroy him right here, right now."
