Chapter 23 - the deadly standoff

The warehouse erupted into absolute, deafening chaos. Suppressed gunfire tore through the damp air in a flawless ballet of violence. Within three agonizing minutes, Marcus's entire elite mercenary strike team was completely dismantled, lying disarmed and bleeding on the cold concrete floor.
Adrian reloaded his weapon, walking past the defeated soldiers. He didn't care about the collateral damage; his dark, lethal eyes were locked entirely on Marcus. The corrupt prosecutor stumbled backward, utterly paralyzed by the overwhelming, majestic authority of the mafia boss.
In a final act of pathetic desperation, Marcus grabbed Mrs. Ellis, pressing a heavy pistol against her fragile temple.
"Drop the gun, Adrian!" Marcus shrieked hysterically, sweat pouring down his pale face. "Drop it, or I blow her brains out!"
