Chapter 19 - the lurking night

That night, a massive thunderstorm hit the small town, bringing roaring thunder that masked all sound. Vance remained wide awake, sitting silently in the dark living room, his hand tightly gripping his gun.

A veteran's intuition told him that they would make their move tonight. Sure enough, through the infrared camera screen, he saw three dark figures moving with incredible professionalism, slithering over the backyard fence.

They had completely cut off the phone lines and the external alarm system. Taking advantage of the thunderclaps, the leader used bolt cutters to expertly snip the lock on the tempered glass kitchen door.

Vance gently kissed the forehead of the sleeping Sarah, whispering an apology for bringing danger to her once again. He quietly stepped out of the bedroom, locking the door tight, turning himself into a ghost.

He was fully prepared to welcome these uninvited guests. In his world, tolerance did not exist for those who dared to threaten the lives of his wife and daughter.
