Chapter 22 - the tunnel of life and death

Beneath his small auto repair shop, Vance had secretly dug a small tunnel leading straight out to a deserted dirt road two miles away. He always knew this day would come, and he was fully prepared.

The old bulletproof pickup truck roared out of the tunnel exit, piercing through the dark, rainy, and stormy night. Just as they left, the house behind them suddenly exploded violently. The cartel had planted bombs to wipe out the entire family.

The bright red flash of the explosion reflected on Sarah's anxious face. She held Abby tightly, her heart pounding repeatedly. If Vance hadn't acted decisively, they would have been turned to ashes right now along with that warm house.

"Where are we going?" Sarah asked, trying to keep her voice as calm as possible.

"A safe house managed by my old brothers," Vance replied, his eyes glued to the road ahead. "There are enough weapons and firepower there to handle an entire battalion. We will be safe."
