Chapter 9 - the chase

Vance's old pickup truck roared as it shot out of the courthouse parking lot. Immediately, the hitmen's black SUV sped closely behind, not hiding its ruthless murderous intent.

"Keep your head down, Sarah! Hold onto the kid tightly!" Vance yelled as a barrage of machine-gun bullets pierced the rear windshield, creating deafening blasts that shattered the quiet atmosphere.

Sarah held little Abby tightly in her arms, her heart pounding in her chest. She had never experienced such a terrifying situation. But Vance's sturdy presence gave her peace of mind.

Vance gripped the steering wheel tightly with one hand, using the other to draw a handgun hidden under the seat. With masterful driving skills, he weaved through crowded intersections, shaking off the black SUV by a hair's breadth.

However, the assassins were highly professional. They split into two directions, locking their perimeter down a narrow alley. Vance's truck was forced to crash hard into an old brick wall, unable to move any further.
