Chapter 23 - the monster awakens

The next morning, Damon was cleaning up in the backyard when he received an emergency call from the Cedar Falls police department. The police chief informed him that Evan had gone missing during night patrol; the patrol car was found abandoned at the harbor with bloodstains scattered on the ground.

The phone in Damon's hand dropped with a thud onto the green grass. The space around him seemed to freeze completely. Every sound of the outside world was extinguished, making way for a furious growl from the deepest depths of his soul. The monster had truly awakened.

Damon didn't say a single word. He quietly walked into the house, stepping down into the secret basement he hadn't opened for ten years. He broke the rusty lock, opening the old metal trunk. Inside was the pitch-black, razor-sharp tactical gear of a former Navy special operative.

Donning the combat suit, Damon put on fingerless gloves and double-checked each weapon with a terrifying coldness. He was no longer a gentle plumber. The phantom of death from the most elite forces had officially returned to the real world.
