Chapter 36 - father and son side by side

Evan and his teammates were holding their ground behind the thick steel doors of the holding cell. The enemy's firepower continuously pounded the area, preventing them from lifting their heads. Ammunition was depleted, and any hope of survival seemed incredibly slim.
Suddenly, the gunfire from outside ceased. In its place, blood-curdling screams and the horrifying sound of shattering bones echoed. A massive dark shadow charged down from the staircase, unleashing melee strikes that took down all the guards.
Evan recognized that familiar silhouette. Damon stood among the corpses, his armor covered in the enemy's blood. His eyes no longer held the gentleness of a father, but the razor-sharp gaze of a professional assassin protecting his family.
"Is everyone okay?" Damon spoke in a deep, hoarse voice, stepping forward to check on his son's condition. Evan nodded, flashing an immensely proud smile. The appearance of his father had injected a tremendous amount of mental strength into the young police officer.
