Chapter 13 - the treacherous move
After being bluntly rejected by his mother, David completely collapsed, breaking down on the cold floor. However, Chloe was not willing to drown in this mud. Her extreme selfishness began to rise fiercely.
Chloe decided to use every trick to squeeze the money back out of Evelyn's hands. The next morning, she drove straight to her mother-in-law's house, not forgetting to put on an extremely pitiful face and fake crocodile tears.
She rang the doorbell repeatedly, disregarding all politeness. When Evelyn opened the door, Chloe immediately dropped to her knees on the porch, hugging her legs, sobbing and playing the role of a daughter-in-law forced to do evil by her own mother.
"Mom, you have to believe me! I didn't want to send that text!" Chloe screamed highly theatrically. "It was all my mother forcing me. She threatened to disown me if I didn't comply! I am innocent, Mom!"
Evelyn stood still on the steps, looking straight down at the woman putting on a play at her feet. Her eyes didn't have a single ripple of pity. "You're very good, Chloe. But unfortunately, your script is terrible."
