Chapter 27 - the sharp counterattack
Sherry's lawyer cleared his throat, sliding the stack of forged medical records to the middle of the table. "Mrs. Evelyn, we have sufficient medical evidence showing you lacked civil capacity when transferring the assets. If you agree to give up thirty percent, we will withdraw the petition."
Evelyn didn't even bother touching the stack of files. She signaled to her lead lawyer. He stood up, calmly pulling another file from his briefcase, bearing the bright red stamp of the federal investigative agency, and slammed it onto the table.
"Counselor, you are using forged documents," Evelyn's lawyer declared, his voice firm as steel. "We investigated the doctor who signed these records. He had his medical license revoked two years ago for accepting bribes and forging medical charts."
The faces of Sherry, Chloe, and the lawyer instantly changed color, drained of every drop of blood. They never expected Evelyn to strike back so swiftly, ruthlessly, and incredibly accurately. The clumsy extortion play had been exposed right from the very first moments.
