Chapter 23 - david's torment

Hearing the cunning coaxing of his ex-wife and ex-mother-in-law, David felt a freezing chill run down his spine. Although he was once a cowardly and ungrateful man, the days living in destitution had taught him a bitter lesson about karma.
He didn't answer right away, using the excuse of needing time to think to kick the two wicked women out of his house. That night, David caught a night bus, making the long trek to the coastal town where Evelyn lived, just to silently observe her from afar.
Early in the morning, he hid behind a large tree, watching his mother happily strolling on the sandy beach with her elderly friends. She smiled radiantly, her face exuding an absolute serenity and happiness that he had never seen before.
David burst into tears. He realized that if he played along with that filthy plot, he would officially become a demon robbing the final joy of the person who gave birth to him. The conscience of a human being had finally spoken up.
