Chapter 6 - The Lobby Confrontation

Sherry’s furious voice echoed through the marble lobby.

"Stop what you're doing right now!" Sherry shrieked at a passing waiter who was carrying away a massive tray of expensive caviar. The older blonde woman in the gold sequin jacket looked absolutely unhinged. "This is my 60th birthday! I am the guest of honor!"

Right behind Sherry walked David and his wife, Chloe.

David looked incredibly handsome in his navy blue suit and dark tie, but his face was tight with anxiety. Chloe, wearing a sleek black evening dress, was nervously wringing her hands, completely bewildered by the chaotic scene.

"Mom, calm down, there must be a scheduling error," David said, trying to manage the public embarrassment as other hotel guests began to stare.

Sherry aggressively marched forward, her gold clutch swinging. "There is no error! I approved this entire party! I picked out the centerpieces! Put them back immediately!"

Then, the three of them stopped dead in their tracks.

Standing in the center of the lobby, blocking their path to the double glass doors, was Evelyn. The emerald green satin of her dress contrasted sharply with the chaotic background. She stood perfectly still, looking at them with an expression of absolute, terrifying peace.
